Why braid
Braided line has almost no stretch. That’s the whole point. You feel the bottom, the structure, and the bite with far more clarity than monofilament gives you — and you set the hook with less travel wasted on line stretch.
Everything else — color, strand count, brand — is preference.
Why 8-strand
8-strand is woven tighter than 4-strand and comes out rounder and smoother. It casts a little better and makes less noise through the guides. The price gap is small, so if you’re only buying one type, get 8-strand.
Why two spools
Line gets nicked, frayed, and lost to snags. Not every season — but eventually, and usually in the middle of a trip. A second spool means you’re not stuck ordering more the week it happens.
